The capital of California has a discreet charm that finds its origin in a turbulent past and is expressed in its architecture, historic districts and museums. Planted northeast of San Francisco, inland, Sacramento was founded in 1848. At the time of the Gold Rush, it was a commercial base and a major agricultural center. The construction of the railway in 1855 also favored its growth, and in 1856 the city became the terminus of the first transcontinental railway.
With many nicknames like “Sacto”, “Sac”, “River City” or “Sacratomato”, this state capital is not a major tourist center. Nevertheless, it enjoys a pleasant climate of Mediterranean type and is home to some interesting sites, starting with the Capitol. Dating from the pivotal period between Mexican and American belonging, this monument was built from 1860 to 1874 in a neoclassical style.
Sacramento also has an old town with fascinating western decor, almost entirely period. Museums are legion and dedicated to history (California State Military Museum, California Foundry Historical Museum, Capitol Museum, Leland Stanford Mansion State Historic Park), art and ethnology ( California Museum, California State Museum, Crocker Art Museum) or transportation (Aerospace Museum, California Railroad Museum).
The city also organizes a French film festival. The Community Center Theater hosts performances of the Sacramento Ballet. Browse adult personals ads in Doublelist Sacratomato.
